Michael Hampton, ou artisticamente conhecido como "DJ Magic Mike", nasceu em Orlando, Estados Unidos em 1967. É um dos mais conceituados produtores e DJ do estilo "Miami Bass".

Mike fez sua estréia no mundo do Miami Bass quando conheceu o produtor/rapper Rod Whitehead em 1986. Rod contratou Mike como DJ para seus próximos projetos na gravadora Miami's Suntown Records, mas depois de Mike avaliar o acordo oferecido pelo proprietário do selo Edward Meriwether, ele deixou a gravadora, e o projeto inacabado. Pouco depois de tocar em rádios, ele recebeu uma proposta do Beatmaster Clay D para produzir os rappers MC's Cool Rock & Chaszey Chess no selo Vision Records. Isto resultou em seu primeiro trabalho gravado, Boot The Booty . No entanto, Mike nesse tempo com Clay D não recebia créditos e tudo era creditado a Clay D.

Depois de trabalhar para Clay D na Vision Records, ele voltou para Orlando e conseguiu um contrato solo com os então desconhecidos do selo Cheetah Records, lançando seu primeiro lote de singles solo em 1988. A coleção desses singles levou Mike a um álbum completo em 1989, intitulado "DJ Magic Mike & The Royal Posse", que contou com muitos grupos  convidados e rappers, todos com base em suas produções. Seu álbum seguinte Bass is the Name of the Game em 1990 levou o Miami Bass a um formato mais comercial.

Muito parecido com a maioria dos outros produtores de Miami Bass, a música de Magic Mike nunca foi exclusivamente Miami Bass, mas também é voltada para o Hip-Hop. Eventualmente, ele se juntou com MC Madness como seu rapper principal embora não tenha havido nenhum acordo de exclusividade para isso, e Mike continuou, colaborando com artistas como Sir Mix-A-Lot e Techmaster PEB.
